About

A hands-on, interactive, and immersive “museum on wheels,” the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience titled “Out of Many, One” is housed in a quad-expandable tractor trailer that is traveling throughout Virginia and beyond. The mobile museum brings key stories of Virginia’s rich history to schools, museums, local events, fairs, and more, highlighting every region of the state.

The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience officially hit the road on January 18, 2025, at the Fincastle Resolutions 250th Anniversary event, “A Salute to Southwest Virginia,” in Roanoke, VA. Since then, it has proven to be so popular that a second mobile museum was created to bring history to every corner of the Commonwealth.

The VA250 Mobile Museum will be coming to Independence, VA during the last week of April, 2026 in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Independence Day. There will be a public ribbon cutting held at Noon on Monday, April 27, at the site of the mobile museum in the Grayson County Courthouse lower parking lot, 209 Davis Street, Independence, VA.

Join the Grayson County Historical Society at 4 PM in Baldwin Auditorium for a free screening of the PBS documentary, “Resolved to Live or Die: The Roots of Revolution in Southwest Virginia”. A historical discussion of the film will follow the screening, led by a member of the Wilderness Road Museum.
