The SteelDrivers + The Wilder Flower at the Blue Ridge Music Center

Date: Sat, June 15th 2024
Time: 07:00 pm - 09:00 pm

The Blue Ridge Music Center presents The SteelDrivers + The Wilder Flower live in concert at its outdoor amphitheater on the Blue Ridge Parkway (Milepost 213) just south of Galax, Va., just north of Mount Airy, N.C. and just east of Sparta, N.C.

Only a town like Nashville could give birth to a band like The SteelDrivers. A group of seasoned veterans who are seizing an opportunity to follow their hearts to their souls’ reward. In doing so, they are braiding their bluegrass roots with new threads of their own design, bringing together country, soul, blues, and other contemporary influences to create an unapologetic hybrid that is old as the hills but fresh as the morning dew. This is new music with the old feeling. SteelDrivers fan Vince Gill describes the band’s fusion as simply “an incredible combination”
Led by founding member, fiddle player, and primary songwriter Tammy Rogers, The SteelDrivers have become one of the biggest names in progressive bluegrass after making their debut in 2005. Specializing in a unique mix of what might be called bluegrass soul, The SteelDrivers bring a passion to their delivery that adds a distinctive flavor, and they’re not afraid of adding a forceful grit to the music. The SteelDrivers have been nominated for four Grammys, the Americana Music Association’s New Artist of the Year Award, and were IBMA’s 2009 Emerging Artist of the Year. In 2015, their album “The Muscle Shoals Recordings” won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Recording.

The Wilder Flower is an all-female trio from the Carolinas. Growing up in the thick of bluegrass and old-time tradition, all three members started playing music at a young age in YAM/JAM programs. The trio flexes between folk, Americana, bluegrass, and old-time, mixing vocally on three-part harmonies, old-time ballads, and modern melodies. Instrumentally, they feature bluegrass banjo tunes, fiddle and clawhammer string-band songs, flatpicking guitar numbers, and everything in between. Their unique sound is centered around original songs and tunes that are thoughtfully arranged and adapted to showcase their tasteful instrumental sensibilities.

Tickets: $40 | $20 for ages 12 and under
