Camp in Grayson

Spend the night under the stars on the highest peaks in Virginia,  stay along the banks of the New River, or anywhere in between. In Grayson County, you can find a beautiful place to have a campfire with friends and view the amazing starry night sky. You are guaranteed to have the vacation you've been looking for in beautiful Grayson County Virginia!

This is a newly remodeled, very family oriented campground with a beautiful river view. There is a tiny cabin that sleeps 4 available to rend as well as a nice bath house. All camp sites have full hookups with 30 & 50 amps. Canoes, kayaks, and tubes are available for rent and the campground is conveniently located near attractions, shopping, and dining in Galax, Independence, and Sparta, NC. Located on 40 acres of woodlands, these campsites are available year-round. Designed for horseback trail riders, the campground is convenient to horse trails located in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and surrounding areas. The camp is not just for horse lovers but is open to all who enjoy the great outdoors, as RV and tent sites are available.

River Views Campground and RV park is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Grayson County VA and alongside the Historic New River. They have sites to accommodate everyone, from the primitive tent campers to the largest RV. All RV campsites have full hookups and some sites are pull-through. RV sites are a minimum of 25' x 64'. Wi-Fi access on premises.

River Views also has two cabins and a farmhouse that has monthly rates. There is a large cabin with 2 bedrooms, electric heat, air conditioning, refrigerator, range, microwave, fireplace, outdoor grill, TV & DVD player. Linens and towels not furnished. The "Camping Cabin" has 1 double bed, futon, A/C, range, & picnic table. Linens and towels not furnished. Bath house available next door.

On this gorgeous property, also sits a recently renovated, three-bedroom, farmhouse that is just a few hundred feet from the New River. Enjoy views of the river, wildlife and birds, and beautiful scenery while relaxing on the porch during your fabulous Southwestern Virginia vacation!

Oracle Campground features 10 campsites, cooking and eating pavilion with a fridge, grill and hot water, outdoor privies, hiking trails, and other outdoor amenities. Our wooded camp is nestled between the New River and Saddle Creek on our 22-acre retreat center - a pristine and private environment sure to please campers of all ages! Our river frontage offers fishing, kayaking, tubing, and a public boat launch within 2 miles.

New River Campground, located right on the New River, offers RV and primitive camp sites. There are boat and tube rentals with a shuttle service for campers. A 3-day minimum stay required on weekends or holidays. New River Campground, Canoeing and Kayaking is a great spot to enjoy the river with family and friends!

This campground is known for its quiet serenity, great view of the mountains and easy access to the outdoor areas of the western side of Grayson County.

 

Directions:

From Rt 16 at Sugar Grove, go left on Flat Ridge Rd (Rt 601). Go approximately 4 miles. The campground entrance is on the left.

The Fries New River Trail RV Park is a unique park with spacious sites overlooking a lush green lawn and a narrow winding stream. The RV park is located in a quiet mountain hollow surrounded by thick forested hills on three sides. The mornings are always cool with light patches of fog rising from New River, and floating gently across the park. This perfect vacation spot is located in the small town of Fries, just one block from the New River and the New River Trail. Bike, tube, canoe, and kayak rentals are nearby so you can plan your daily adventure!

Creeper Trail Campground is located near the Virginia Creeper Trail and offers a variety of Recreational Vehicle and primitive sites. They also offer bike rentals for your enjoyment of the trail.

Cool Breeze is the place to be on a hot summer day, or year round if you are visiting in the fall, winter or spring.  The Top notch RV Park, located at 2330 Edmonds Road in Galax, comes complete with  full hookups, free wireless internet, a bath/shower house with warm water and open 24 hours.  Laundry facilities and a Rally Center big enough for your group gatherings.  Conveniently located near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Galax and attractions on the eastern end of Grayson County.  

Camp Dickenson is a Methodist camp designed for youth summer camp activities.  The camp can also be reserved for retreats and use by others with scheduled appointments.  Located on the banks of the New River this camp offers a wonderful natural setting.

Grayson Highlands State Park is home to two major attractions, Mt. Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia, and the Wild Ponies, a small herd of beautiful ponies that roam freely in the park.  In addition to the gorgeous views, there's numerous hiking and horseback riding trails, picnicking and camping areas, and a visitor's center/museum. This recreation area offers 6 camping units with parking and picnic tables, picnic shelter and fireplace; a beautiful overlook of Elk Creek Valley is accessible in the area, as well as nearby Hale Lake (2 miles), Unaka nature trail and Little Dry Run and Iron Mountain Trails.  Although the campground is open year-round, the road to the campground is closed in the winter due to icy and hazardous conditions.

The Virginia Creeper Trail highlights the beauty of western Grayson County. Dense forests, bog meadows, a pristine trout stream and southwestern Virginia culture.
